Thanks and Goals

I owe a great big thanks to all of you who commented on my blogfest entries! All the thoughtful comments were filled with encouragement, which I greatly appreciated. Even better, the number of followers on my blog more than tripled this weekend. As a newbie blogger, my heart sings to see all those who showed an interest in my blog! I can't wait to be one of those bloggers who celebrates having 100 followers.

Thanks to the example of Crystal Cook on her blog Write Because You Must, I'm going to start setting weekly goals. They seem more manageable than monthly or quarterly goals because I tend to procrastinate. I commend all of you who manage to write 1,000 or 2,000 or 3,000+ words per day, but I'm not there yet. As much as I'd love to be able to write that much, I know that if I set my goal too high, I'll give up before I even begin. Besides, I haven't written since the March Marathon on Throwing Up Words, so any word count will be better than my current situation!

This week's goals:
  1. Write 500 words a day for at least 5 days on my current WIP.
  2. Work on revisions for chapters 9-11 on my previous manuscript.
  3. Finish critiquing a writing partner's manuscript before my writing group meets on Saturday.
  4. Submit online.
I can do this, right? What weekly goals you set for yourself? (For when I begin to aim higher, of course.)

These are great goals! I find setting weekly goals works best for me too. I posted my weekly goals yesterday and now I need to read over them and get to work. Good luck this week.

Look at you go! I do think setting daily, weekly and monthly goals really helps keep a writer on task.

Good job.

That's a good idea, weekly goals. I should do that too. I always have a pretty general monthly goal, like, "work on this novel." I might try weekly goals!

Lovely blog. Keep up the incredible work!

I try to set weekly goals as well. Usually, they're in the form of chapters: finish these chapters by Sunday and edit these. I also try to reserve one day to just read the manuscript with a clear mind.

I'm glad you had fun and followers from the Blogfest. I was impressed by the variety and depth of work everywhere.

I plan to set some goals, just as soon as I can take a breath again. I've been holding my breath for weeks now. I think no news is good news.

I am like you in that if I set my goals too high, I psyche myself out. I was on a roll of writing 1000/words a day, five days a week so I decided to up it to 2000/words a day...I ended up not a word for almost two weeks! Now I am grateful if I can hit 1000/day....so start manageable for sure!

Good luck on achieving your goals! I'm also envious of those who write 1000+ words a day, but I'm a very slow writer, so my current goal is also 500 words a day. It seems very little, but in 6 months, I'll have a novel. :]

Dude, I go day by day. It's all I can do. Weekly? I might crawl into bed and never get out. Right now I'm going for 1000 words/day. So far, it's working.

I'm in Scriptfrenzy. Gotta write 100 pages by the end of the month! Yikes. Been awfully busy, so I'm going to have to run off and hide so I can write.

Good Goals! Maybe I should do something like that to keep me on track.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and following me. I've done the same for you.

These are wonderful goals! Lisa and I are in the brink of goal-setting ourselves. We need to buckle down.
